This lesser-known beach park has both sandy and grassy/shaded areas with picnic tables and firepits, making it the perfect destination for campers. In fact, a gated recreation center is nearby with tents and cabins available to rent. The gentle waves and clear waters during the summer months are perfect for swimmers, snorkelers, body boarders, and beginning surfers, while the soft, sparkling sands beckon all to spend a lazy day simply laying out in the sun. What’s more, because Malaekahana is surprisingly isolated, the bathroom facilities are typically clean and in good shape. If you’re seeking a quiet, low-key spot, this is it. Also of interest: Goat Island, a protected seabird sanctuary, is located just off the shore and you can actually walk to it during low tide, or walk-swim during high tide.
