Description:

Sheepside was a DIY skatepark (similar in vibe to Channel Street Skatepark in San Pedro, CA) that local skaters converted from an old abandoned building on the North Shore of Oahu. It was rumored to be an insane asylum or a juvenile detention center from the '60s. Built around (and over) the banyan tree roots still visible in the abandoned structure, the park was truly a group effort where volunteers wheelbarrowed in a gravel and concrete mixture to hand shape the park. After many months of clearing the building and pulling in donations from local businesses, Sheepside was finally rideable in the summer of 2016. Sadly, the park was officially shut down by the city at the end of 2021 and, according to the workers we talked to clearing the brush near the park, the remaining building is set to be demolished in the summer of 2022.
