Foster Botanical Garden

In 1853, a doctor and botanist from Germany named William Hillebrand leased a parcel of land from Queen Kalama, and, young Hillebrand and his wife would build a home and plant a number of trees there. Today, those trees have grown to magnificent heights, and the land, which was further expanded and developed by Thomas and Mary Foster, is now a thriving 13.5 acre botanical garden. A tranquil oasis in the heart of the bustling city of Honolulu, the garden attracts 75,000 visitors per year from around the globe to see the tens of thousands of rare and exotic plant species proudly on display.
