Description:
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Liljestrand House was designed by celebrated architect Vladimir Ossipoff for Dr. Howard and Betty Strand in 1948. The resulting home became Ossipoff’s most well known domestic project (mainly as a result of it being featured in House Beautiful Magazine in 1958). The hillside location dictated the house’s ingenious multi-tiered design, and the result is a modern, stunningly beautiful (though not ostentatious), highly functional home that takes full advantage of the site’s stellar views. According to Dr. Liljestrand, “We did not want a luxury house. In the way of a house we wanted nothing fancy, a mountain house it had to be.” The house is available to the public for tours and special events.
