Description:

If ever a stretch of coast deserved to be called the surfing mecca of the world, it’s Oahu’s North Shore—specifically Waimea Bay, Pipeline, and Sunset Beach. In December, when waves are at their peak, the North Shore hosts three competitive events known as the Triple Crown of Surfing: O’Neill World Cup of Surfing, the Reef Hawaiian Pro, and the Billabong Pipeline Masters. Novice surfers, though, shouldn’t shy away from this prime surfing spot. Beach waters on the North shore are calmer during the summer months, and it also has coves shielded from big waves that provide the perfect conditions for learners. The North Shore has also been used as a filming location for movies including Blue Crush, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, North Shore, and it was even depicted in animation for the family film Surf’s Up.
