Description:
This sign created by artist Carole Beller has some controversial history behind it. The original sign's surfer had been sawed off by unidentified vandals and remained that way until a surfboard shaper by the name of Tatsuro Ota repaired it with the shape of a male. Apparently, this prompted action from Carole Beller who then fashioned a red bikini-clad female surfer to replace the interloper. Turns out this story of copyright woes makes the sign (and town) more fascinating.
