Queen Emma Summer Palace

This palatial estate (known as Hānaiakamalama, “the Southern Cross”) was the 19th century summer home of Queen Emma of Hawaii, her husband King Kamehameha IV, and their son Prince Albert Edward who tragically died as a child. Built in the Greek revival style, the fully-restored home stands on a beautifully landscaped 12-acre plot of land featuring a variety of native Hawaiian plants. Some of the historical artifacts on display at this museum: Prince Albert’s cradle, the Queen’s sleigh bed, the family’s baby grand piano, a stereopticon given to Queen Emma by Napolean III during her visit to France in 1865, a number of royal portraits of Kamehameah III, IV, and V, and of course Queen Emma herself.
