Kailua's ancient site was sacred to the natives who lived here, favored by the chiefs for safe canoe landings and abundant fishing. The heiau measures 140 by 180 feet with 30-foot high walls. Today it is a beautiful sightseeing landmark, one of the few that preserves the ancient Hawaiian traditions. (Photo by Ashante Robinson)
