Description:

Fort Mims, located near Stockton, Alabama, was the site of a tragic event during the Creek War of 1813-1814. On August 30, 1813, a group of Creek warriors, known as the Red Sticks, attacked the fort, resulting in a devastating massacre. Hundreds of settlers, including men, women, and children, were killed or captured. The attack on Fort Mims marked a turning point in the war, leading to increased military involvement from the United States and ultimately contributing to the downfall of the Creek Nation. Today, the site is remembered for its historical significance and is commemorated with an annual reenactment.
