Description:

G.E. Morris, a German builder contracted by the Confederate Army, built this grist mill in 1864. It is well preserved and remains in great condition today, thankfully so. Most of the grist mills in this part of Alabama were destroyed by Union soldiers as a scorched earth tactic but this one was missed. While you're there don't forget to visit the gift shop and purchase some locally produced foodstuffs such as corn meal, grits, and honey. There is a small entry fee to help maintain the bridge and grist mill. Check the website for current rates and opening times.
