Blue Babe, a 36,000-year-old mummified bison, is probably one of the most unique and fascinating wonders in the world. Recovered from permafrost, this Ice Age creature was killed by a lion but quickly froze during this unimaginably frigid era. After specimens were collected and tested, a Finnish taxidermist prepared Blue Babe for mounting and display. Named in part for its coloring produced by oxidation and also as a tribute to Paul Bunyan's mythical pet, this extraordinary creature is on display at the university.
