Description:
Nome is quite famous for such a small town in the sparsely populated state of Alaska. The town established in 1901 grew in prosperity due to the discovery of gold, but it was also featured in the 1995 animated film "Balto." Standing next to the 20-foot-tall pan are life-sized bronze statues of the "Three Lucky Swedes" - Norwegian-born Jafet Lindeberg and Swedish immigrants, Erik Lindblom and John Brynteson. They discovered the Nome gold in 1898 shortly before establishing the town.
