Description:

In 1881, the Bird Cage Theater opened and it was a combination theater, saloon, gambling hall, and brothel that operated during the silver boom from 1881 to 1889. Catering to the rough mining crowd, the Bird Cage was the most wild and wicked night spot between Basin Street and the Barbary Coast and the more than 120 bullet holes found throughout the building attest to that! And one other thing to mention - the theater is purported to be haunted! Now a tourist attraction, the Bird Cage is open year round to the general public from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
