Description:

Originally constructed in 1870, this rustic lodge was listed on NRHP in 1975. Unfortunately, it burned down in 1980 and was delisted because the cost of rebuilding would have been exorbitant. Thus, a shell of one of the buildings, a few brick columns, and, ironically, a fireplace are all that remain, poking out of the foliage of Oak Creek Canyon. Before it burned down, the lodge tended to noteworthy guests such as President Herbert Hoover, Clark Gable, Jimmy Stewart, Walt Disney, Cesar Romero, Maureen O'Hara, and Susan Hayward. To get there, drive on N. State Rte 89A to Shady Lane and turn north. You'll find some parking ahead. The ruins are located a short walking distance from the Call of the Canyon Trailhead.
