Monument Valley (in Navajo, "Tsé Biiʼ Ndzisgaii") translates to "valley of the rocks." It is a region of the Colorado Plateau characterized by a cluster of vast sandstone buttes. The largest is 1,000 ft (300 m) above the valley floor. The valley has been featured in various forms of media since the 1930s. Areas of the valley such as Mystery Valley and Hunts Mesa are accessible only by guided tour.
