Description:

The Pipe Creek Vista Rim Trail overlook at the South Rim is a famous, minor overlook that offers dramatic views of Pipe Creek, illustrating how an area fueled by water and cooler temperatures due to the shading from the canyon walls can create a microhabitat with Douglas firs. The vista is the first pullout on your left when heading toward Desert View on State Route 64 East. This scenic overlook can become congested, especially with vehicle traffic, because it is the first overlook east of the junction with South Entrance Road. Access the trail either with a 1.4-mile (2.3 km) walk on a paved trail west to Mather Point or a 0.9-mile (1.4 km) walk east to the South Kaibab Trailhead. Whichever you choose you'll be treated to great views of the canyon.
