The former POW Wow Trading Post, originally built as a curio shop in 1928, was part of the Central Auto Court established in 1917. Renamed the Pow Wow Trading Post & Motel in the late 1940s or early 1950s, the business thrived into the late 1970s or mid-80s. The property was sold in the mid-'80s, and it became the Petrified Smoke Shop in 2019. The large Kachina style sign, installed post-1959, replaced an earlier modest sign, and the business transitioned into a rock shop, altering the sign from "Motel" to "Rocks."
