Description:

You can find the longest vertical drop along the Grand Canyon's South Rim at the Abyss. This sheer, steep drop of 3,000 ft (900 m) even rivals the impressive canyon views! The no-fault line is present at the Abyss which means very little water runs into the canyon because it's mostly draining away to the south and out from the rim. Faults usually cause many other side canyons as they cut through the rock walls and funnel water to the Colorado River. The continual gravitational pull on the rock face causes much erosion near the Abyss.
