Description:
The Original El Charro Café in Tucson, founded in 1922 by Monica Flin, is widely recognized as the oldest Mexican restaurant in the United States continuously run by the same family. The café became a local institution after settling into its historic Court Avenue location in 1968, where it continues to celebrate traditional Sonoran cooking. It is especially famous for its Carne Seca, a sun-dried beef dish prepared on the restaurant’s rooftop, as well as its legendary chimichanga, said to have been created there by accident. Other popular favorites include chile rellenos, cheese crisps, enchiladas, and a wide range of classic Tucson-style Mexican dishes.
