Description:
Asilomar State Beach's location is in the city of Pacific Grove on the Monterey Peninsula. The beach is a one-mile narrow sandy stretch with rocky coves and a 3/4-mile coast walking trail. The state beach allows both pedestrians and leashed dogs on the beach. The beach is a protected marine resource area. Animals and features (including shells and rocks) are protected. Collecting or fishing is not allowed to maintain this coastal area. Asilomar began in 1913 as a young womens' summer camp and conference facility and these historic buildings are still an integral part of the Asilomar grounds. The building's designer and builder was the renowned California architect, Julia Morgan. Asilomar State Beach & Conference Grounds is adjacent to Sunset Drive, Asilomar Avenue, and Crocker Avenue in the city of Pacific Grove.
