Description:
Bale Grist Mill State Historic Park features a water-powered grist mill built in 1846, once a social hub for Napa Valley settlers who gathered there to grind corn and wheat into meal or flour. Dr. Edward Turner Bale, the mill owner, received the property in a Mexican land grant and lived nearby until his death in 1849. The mill, with its 36-foot water wheel, remained operational until the early 1900s. Designated as a state historic landmark, the mill and wheel have undergone partial restoration.
