Description:
This ethereal, domed observatory is one of the best places in the USA from which to see the stars. It is surrounded by a clear atmosphere facilitated by nearby Big Bear Lake. The observatory houses the Goode Solar Telescope which is currently the largest clear aperture solar telescope in the world. The tours do not run regularly so its best to call ahead of time. Even if you can't gain admission the structure surrounded by the gorgeous Big Bear Mountains makes this area worth a detour.
