The Buck Rock Lookout is a historic fire lookout tower located in the Sequoia National Forest near the community of Hume, CA. The tower sits atop Buck Rock, which is a granite dome that rises to an elevation of 8,500 feet above sea level. The tower was built in 1923 by the U.S. Forest Service as part of a network of fire lookouts designed to detect and prevent wildfires in the forest. The original tower was a wooden structure that was replaced in 1929 with the current steel tower, standing 60 feet tall.
