Description:

If you live along the California Coast, planning a trip to Vegas could include a stop at this tunnel to nowhere. William Schmidt started excavating this tunnel in 1902 and although it was a fruitless endeavor, he kept on digging out his route until 1940. Even though a surface road had been built in 1920 eliminating his need for the tunnel, this became a labor of love for him. The tunnel is pretty much in the middle of nowhere but is still quite fascinating especially imbued with the character of the man behind it. Unfortunately, visitors cannot enter his living quarters.
