This historic hotel opened at the beginning of the Depression. From the 1940s to the 1960s it became a cultural center for African-Americans. Jazz and blues could regularly be heard from great artists such as Billie Holiday, Sly Stone, and James Brown. Today, 137 affordable residential apartments are above 8000 square feet of commercial space. (Submitted by Marlene Alvarez)
