Description:
Danish-born Charles Looff arrived in the U.S. in 1870. Starting in 1876, he would hand-carve over 50 carousels. Many have not survived the ravages of time but the San Diego carousel has been preserved remarkably well. Over 40 pieces including horses, giraffes, camels, a dragon, an elephant, and a carriage revolve on golden poles. At two dollars per ride, this carousel is one of the best entertainment values in San Diego.
