Description:
Built in 1890 with hand-cut granite blocks, the Dam Keeper’s House served as a home for over a dozen dam keepers and their families, including the notable Bill Knickerbocker, who lived there from 1909 to 1918. It played a vital role in Big Bear Lake's irrigation efforts until 1977. The house was then transferred to the U.S. Forest Service and now stands with its original walls intact. It also appears in the 1931 Frankenstein film and its 1935 re-release, offering visitors a glimpse into the region's early irrigation history and views of the Big Bear Dam.
