Description:

An iron plaque is affixed to a large rock in front of an old rail car. This was once the largest open-pit mining operations in the world in the early 1900s. Schwarzenegger fans might remember the mine as a film location in "Terminator 2: Judgment Day." More relics of the mining era can be seen at the Desert Center Post Office, one of the only surviving businesses in the area. (Submitted by Rajie Brown)
