Description:

Fort Ross boasts the first windmill west of the Mississippi. It was used to grind grain into flour as well as power the stamping of tan bark. The original windmills are long gone, the current one being a gift from a Russian foundation. It was built, disassembled, packed, shipped, and reassembled at its destination. For windmill events and updates visit the website or call (707) 847-3437. Every day park hours are from sunrise to sunset but the Visitor Center and fort compound are open from 10 AM to 4:30 PM. Regular day fees are $8 per vehicle.
