Fortynine Palms Oasis

A 3-mile hike ends in a welcome respite at a beautiful oasis as promised by the name. Still, in the heat of the desert it can be pretty strenuous for people who are not accustomed to the warmth or the slope of the trail. Be forewarned - there is almost no shade until you reach the oasis which can be pretty intense especially at high noon. Bring a backpack with plenty of water! From the Oasis Visitor Center travel five miles west on Hwy 62 and turn left on Canyon Road. From the Joshua Tree Visitor Center, travel 11 miles east on Hwy 62 and turn right on Canyon Road. Canyon Road turns slightly to the left and becomes Fortynine Palms Canyon Road. Follow it to the parking area.
