Description:

Fresno Flats Historic Village and Park provides a glimpse into 19th Century life in the Sierra Nevada foothills and Central California's mountains, situated at the southern end of the historic Mother Lode gold fields. Unlike those drawn by gold, settlers in Eastern Madera County came to establish lives and families, engaging in professions such as farming and merchandising while utilizing the region's abundant natural resources. The museum complex is centered around two meticulously restored homes from the 1870s, recognized as Points of Historical Interest by the State of California for their unique construction styles. These homes, along with early one-room schools, 19th Century jails, and various farm buildings, were rescued from demolition, relocated to Fresno Flats Historical Park, and restored by dedicated volunteers from the Sierra Historic Sites Association.
