Glass Beach

Saves: 308
Check-ins: 25
Once a dump site, Glass Beach was an effort by the landowner and the California Coastal Conservancy to make something beautiful out of a manmade junkyard. Tons of scrap metal, appliances, and even automobiles were trashed in the waterfront community for decades until 1967. The piled up waste created tons of broken glass to wash ashore on the nearby beach. After another few decades to correct this blight, Glass Beach is once again in use for recreational purposes with only a shoreline covered in rounded pieces of beautiful colored glass pebbles to show for the years of dumping.
