Description:

Between October 1966 and March 1968, the Grateful Dead, the well-known jam band, used this place as their communal home and headquarters. In 1967 they faced drug-related charges and held a press conference here to advocate for decriminalization. Their argument was that if all marijuana users were to be arrested, the city of San Francisco would be left empty. Although it took another 49 years, California eventually legalized marijuana.
