Description:

Descending from zebras kept in William Randolph Hearst's private zoo in the early 1900s, these black-and-white hoofed creatures can easily be seen from the road. During the publishing magnate's life these zebras kept company with other exotic species such as camels, antelope, and deer from other countries, llamas, and kangaroos. After the zoo had to be dismantled in 1937 many of the gentler animals were allowed to roam free around the property. To maximize your chances of seeing the zebras plan your road trip in warmer weather.
