Description:
A giant bell was ordered from England and arrived in 1865. Placerville had unfortunately suffered three disastrous fires before its arrival, hence the need for an alarm system to warn the residents of danger to life and property. Although an electronic alarm today fulfills that purpose, this historic bell and tower is a unique centerpiece from the town's Gold Rush days.
