Hsi Lai Temple

Shangri-La has been found in Puente Hills. This Buddhist monastery in Hacienda Heights is one of the largest of its type in the Western Hemisphere. It was founded in 1988 by Taiwanese monk Hsing Yun, noted for his work on Humanistic Buddhism. The grounds are open daily from 9 AM to 5 PM - as with any spiritual site, respect and cultural sensitivity are requisite. Go on an empty stomach - they serve up a delicious vegetarian buffet lunch for about $8.
