LA Arts District Murals

Located near Little Tokyo, this is a safe haven for urban artists. Although any kind of urban art of graffiti is a punishable felony in Los Angeles this district is allows artists to flourish and practice their craft with impunity. Businesses have given muralists permission to paint the sides of their buildings and old factories. They've even gone so far as to supply them with the tools to paint. It has had an uplifting effect - the murals have helped the area become more gentrified. (Submitted by Martha Magdaleno)
