Description:

The Los Osos Bear statue is the town's mascot. "Los Osos"is Spanish for "the bears" and derived from the Gaspar de Portol expedition in 1769. The statue is the creation of a local artist, Paula Zima. The statue survived vandalism in 2015 when someone broke off the bear's snout. Two weeks prior vandals stole the solar panel controls! Volunteers repaired the bear as donations poured in to repair and replace the solar panel and lighting systems. To view the bear you can get a parking spot at the corner of South Bay Boulevard and Turri Road and walk 400 feet south.
