Description:

Mission San Antonio de Pala is a historic Spanish mission located in Pala, CA. It was founded in 1816 by Father Antonio Peyri and was part of the chain of 21 missions established by the Spanish in California. The mission's original purpose was to serve the native Luiseño people who were converted to Christianity by the Franciscan friars who lived and worked at the mission. The Luiseño people helped to build the mission and provided labor for its upkeep and agriculture. The mission was also a center of education where the friars taught the native people various trades and skills.
