Description:

This Franciscan mission was founded in 1797, the 15th of 21 total missionary outposts in present-day California. Building began in 1803 and went on for more than a decade. San Juan Bautista is the only California mission that has a Spanish Plaza where other buildings once stood. The Plaza Hotel, stables, and Jose Castro House are still there today.
