Mitchell Caverns

After being newly reopened in 2017 after a seven-year closure, Mitchell Caverns are open again and it's now the perfect time to visit these Ice Age-Era caverns. The entire infrastructure was given a makeover after vandals and thieves ripped out the copper wiring and stole valuable machinery. Nestled deep in the Mojave Desert, these isolated chambers constitute the only limestone cave system in the California State Parks. (Photo by Brooke Staggs)
