New Idria Ghost Town

Coalinga is a California town that almost no one has ever heard of. It has a dubious claim to fame - as the home of one of the most toxic ghost towns. New Idria was once the site of a mercury mining town; thus it is a highly toxic area. Quicksilver, one of two periodic table elements to remain a liquid at room temperature, has leached into the ground and water making the surrounding area uninhabitable.
