Description:

Located in the western Mojave Desert this town was named after a spring that supplied water to the local Santa Fe Railroad. While Newberry Springs is still an active town this small part has been buried under sand dunes due to high winds. In the early 1990s the residents had to abandon their homes because of the incessant sand and dust. Some structures are filled with sand, almost to the ceiling. These modern-day ruins are a glimpse into the recent past and perhaps a possible future in a drought-stricken land.
