Description:
Stop along Highway 1 to visit Limekiln State Park where you'll find some 19th-century history while trekking the trails through the towering redwoods. Located two miles south of Lucia, you can camp and swim in Limekiln Creek and at a beach. Even though you'll spot various marine life, the big attraction is the historic kilns. Explore the limekiln ruins and also visit the beach above. With the depletion of the limestone reserves and the abandonment of the kilns came nature's reclamation of the land. Slowly we've seen the recovery of the forest. The four iron and stone kilns remain like iron giants from an ancient civilization! 29 campsites are situated along the creek - you can reserve a campsite up to six months in advance, but this area is not for car or RV camping.
