Description:

Built in 1863, this religious folk temple served almost 10,000 people of Chinese descent during the Gold Rush. It was built and furnished with funds provided by the Tongzhi Emperor and Empress of China, with materials obtained from Palermo, California. A nominal fee of $3 per adult will gain you admission to a museum filled with beautiful artifacts, clothing, and history of the Chinese who settled here. Hours are normally Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday from 12 to 4, but call (530) 538-2496 for current information. The temple is easily seen from the street.
