Description:

It was built in 1871 but still is active today guiding the Coast Guard in their daily duties. With a height of 115 feet and a focal height of 148 feet, it is one of the taller lighthouses in the U.S. making it well into the top 50th percentile. Interestingly, the lightkeeper's house has been a youth hostel since the 1960s. The lighthouse tower is closed to tours but you are free to walk around outside to take pictures and visit the beach. The park is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and open from 10 AM to 4 PM the rest of the week.
