This destination ain't for the faint of heart! An isolated desert region of California yields a maze of tunnels dug during different decades of mining history. This particular vein yielded gold and silver in the late 1800s. Risk-taking adventurers like to drive their 4WDs through the dark, rocky burrows, but this kind of exploring is not recommended as some have collapsed. Instead, park near the entrance and do some exploring on foot. Make sure you're dressed for a cave hike and bring some water and bright flashlights with spare batteries. Be aware that the drive to the cave might cause damage to your car due to unpaved roads. (Submitted by Katie Rogers)
