Rio Tinto Borax Mine

California is known for its natural resources and this is not the least of them. This mine is the largest of its kind producing borax to fulfill nearly half of the world's demand. This mine supplies borates to over 100 countries. The visitor center is conveniently open seven days a week from 9 AM to 5 PM and admission is free. (Photo by Binh Pham)
