Abandoned Rock-A-Hoola Waterpark

Saves: 181

This amusement park in the desert had a long life - opened in 1962 and finally closed in 2004. In the 1990s, the park was sold and renamed the Lake Dolores Rock-A-Hoola Waterpark - a manmade oasis in the desert that played '50s and '60s rock n' roll while kids and their parents tumbled down slippery slides. After an accident paralyzed an employee, the park never recovered financially and soon filed for bankruptcy. A few other ventures have been tentatively started but nothing has come to fruition. Now, it is another lonely, abandoned park in the middle of a desert written up in the blogs of road trip travelers. Please note: The last time we visited (April 2022), there was a pack of 8 stray, hungry dogs roaming the park. It's a little scary to have them run up on you, so proceed at your own risk.
