Description:

Saltdale is yet another ghost town in the desert landscape of Kern County - established in 1914 to mine salt from Koehn Dry Lake. Because of the almost nonexistent rainfall in the area, the inhospitable environment soon chased away the residents. The high salt content of the land has eroded many of the structures that remained. Only a railroad track is evidence that a community once thrived here.
